Dogon and Bangime Linguistics

Dictionaries

This page is under construction. Ideally it will automatically generate a "dictionary" for any pair of languages selected. However, some pairs are not ready for this, and for those pairs that are ready the result is directly generated from a spreadsheet originally designed for top-down organization by semantic domain. Forms from the same word family may therefore not be adjacent, as tonal markings and diacritics as well as affixation and compounding will skew of the ideal alphabeticization. We will periodically produce more traditional Dogon language dictionaries (with English and French glosses) based on partial reorganization of the automatically generated "dictionaries" and put them up on this page in pdf form. For comparative Dogon lexical data, click the "thesaurus", "search", or "alphabet" tabs. The thesaurus organizes the lexicon by semantic domains and their subdomains; the search page gives data corresponding to a simple English gloss; the alphabetical page displays the entire comparative lexicon sorted alphabetically by simple English glosses. For Bangi-me resources, see the Bangime page.
