This website presents searchable interfaces to lexicographic data being collected for the Languages of Dogon project. Its principle investigator is Professor Jeffrey Heath (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~jheath/).
The current database includes: Jamsay [djm], Gourou, Nanga, Beni, Walo, Tabi, and Najamba. Video clips illustrate lexical distinctions and link to the comparative lexicon. In-depth ethno-botanical images are being linked to the comparative lexicon as well. Free bilingual PDF dictionaries are available under bilingual dictionaries.
The Dogon data on this site is encoded in Unicode and uses SIL's Doulos SIL font for rendering. Doulos SIL is freely available at: http://scripts.sil.org/DoulosSILfont.
The timelines for fieldwork in the current grant are:
As data is collected it is added to the online database. Extensive flora-fauna materials are also being added to the database. Project materials also include PDF bilingual dictionaries that can be generated online, and grammars, dictionaries and a bibliography under the resources link.
